How do police reports work and at what incidents will a police report be used against an offender?

Such as if a guy were to hurt someone in one city and had a police report put against them, but with no court trial; and then months later got into a fight in a different city and was taken in for a few hours due to a citizen arrest and has to later appear at court at that city. How would this effect the offender, even if he were defending himself in the fight? Will the police report from months ago be brought up to be used against him for that trial?

Let’s say I start with a duel degree in psy and criminal justice, then I fill out a application for a police department, and pass the phisical and written exam, and I go to police accedmy….What comes next, do they start with patrol or traffic duty, or does it depend on your skills in the accedmy? Or is it like a wherever we need you type of thing? Where does a beginner begin in the fild of police work?

How does your states police academy work?

Joel Q asked:

In Kentucky everyone goes through the same 18 week police academy. That is except for Lexington, Louisville and the state police. I was wondering if it was like this in other states. I heard from someone that there are some departments in some states don’t require their officers to go to an academy.
